There are some recipes that are truly simple and easily overlooked. Baked apples definitely falls into that category. They are simple to prepare and can easily become a wow show-stopper.
I have had guests remark to me that they never knew a baked apple could be so beautiful and tasty. Here is the recipe:
INGREDIENTS
6-12 apples, cored
cinnamon
4 tablespoons sugar or honey (optional)
unsalted nuts or craisins (optional)
8 tablespoons of water, fruit nectar or juice
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Use soft apples (like Macintosh, Gala, etc) and scrub, leaving skin on. Core with an apple corer. If you like, you can fill the empty core with a few nuts or craisins. Place apples in baking pan or on baking sheet. Carefully pour liquid over apples and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Bake for 30-40 minutes or until apples just start to get soft and come apart.
Remove from oven and cool. Serve hot or cold.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Garnish with a cookie or a cinnamon stick.
If serving hot, pair with frozen ice cream. The hot vs. cold palate sensation is delightful!
